LDL cholesterol management in diabetes

I'm diabetic for the past 35 years and currently taking one tab of Sitaglobtin 50/500 daily. Fasting Sugar hovers around 100-110. BP is also normal with readings around 120/75. But LDL is 97. Should I take medicine for reducing LDL. Is the medicine impacts HDl also?. My father died at the age of 75 years due to heart attack. Please advise.

Your target LDL is less than 70 based on all current guidelines . This is simply because you have diabetes. Please discuss starting meds w your doctor to lower LDL to less than 70
