LDL and ApoB management
I wanted to ask about 60 year old female with osteoporosis whose eating habits are very good, but definitely needs more exercise. Here is her Lipid Panel. Will only exercise suffice to reduce Apolipoprotein b and LDL or also need medication too? Triglycerides 118 Cholesterol 220 LDL (calc) 117 Non-HDL 137 HDL 83 Lipoprotein (a) 36 nmol/L Apolipoprotein B 101 mg/dl Weight 129 lbs and height 5 ft 3.5 inches
So her BMI is actually very good so losing more weight will not help her. Exercise typically increases the HDL slightly, but does not change the LDL whole lot. Her Apo B is slightly elevated as well.. Is there a strong family history of heart disease? if there is then the LDL should be kept definitely less than 100. If there is no strong family history, she can try to exercise and see if that helps reduce her Cholesterol and repeating 3 to 6 months
