Statins and heart attack prevention
Does statins reduce only cholesterol? Or it prevents heart attack also. Why 50% of the patients have normal cholesterol while getting heart attack? Statins are one of the highest prescribed medicines, but still why heart attack is the number one cause of death?
BEST EVIDENCE: Lowering LDL reduces heart attacks. Period! I wish we had one cause of heart attacks....there are NOT which is why we emphasize MULTIPLE things as a comprehensive lifestyle PLUS medications approach to prevention and treatment. BINARY, simplistic arguments like “Why are heart attacks still occurring despite statins" make the arguments too simplistic and along the lines of what influencers are using on social media rather than evidence-based scientific methods. So as an example, no amounts of statins or anything will save you if you have poor diet, no exercise and visceral obesity!!!
